MPD Auto upsampling my music?

Postby The Reverend » 19 Feb 2016, 20:16

Howdy,

i just recognized that MPD seems to upsample my Music files even though its disabled under the MPD options:

Code: Select all
[root@rune ~]# cat /proc/asound/card*/pcm*p/sub*/hw_params
access: RW_INTERLEAVED
format: S24_LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 44100 (44100/1)
period_size: 2048
buffer_size: 8192
access: RW_INTERLEAVED
format: S24_LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 44100 (44100/1)
period_size: 2048
buffer_size: 8192

this is when playing back a 16bit mp3. The PCM5102 upsamples internally so why is this? And could you please remove the mpd.conf edit blocker? its seriously broken, t least make it optional.

Hi The Referend,

that MPD seems to upsample my Music files

This is not up(re)-sampling here - the bit depth is up-converted.

Up-converting the bit depth has absolutely no impact on the sound quality.
Each sample is just getting padded with extra zeroes.
This has no effect at the D/A conversion stage.

This is likely because your DAC hardware is requesting this on playback.

Re-sampling -> changing sample rate

And could you please remove the mpd.conf edit blocker?

Will be solved with the next release.

Great, so no worries here.

Strangely this happens only when mp3 files are played . 16Bit wav and flac are sent as 16Bit.

Thanks for the Info
