Managing files on USB drive from Windows

Postby andy.room » 04 Sep 2014, 21:53

I've tried to find some topics about this subject, but I could not read anything about it. Well, my idea is to copy in and out files on my permanently connected to RPi USB HDD. As my PC, running Windows XP, is on the same network, it would be extremely usefull to manage these actions (copy, delete, cut, paste and make dir) directly from windows files explorer. I do not see the RPi in the windows network resources, if I enter the IP number of the RPi, I get connected to the RUI...Of course I can do everything via SSH, but it is not very handy. Can anybody show me the right way to implement my idea? Thanks in advance.

IMHO, the easiest thing to do is get WinSCP. Looks and functions like Explorer, just drag and drop files.

I'd just use WinSCP, too ;)

Following your hints, I managed to implement file exchange between PC and RPi.
Thanks again.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you actually access the files in the USB HDD? I managed to implement all the modifications in the links provided and is now running WinSCP. I can only see the folders and files of Rune itself. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Update:
I finally saw the files. I forgot to switch to DEV mode. :D Now I can see my music files under mnt>MPD>USB.

Anyone experiencing error code 4 when trying to drag and drop a folder? It says "error creating a folder" in the destination directory.

http://winscp.net/eng/docs/sftp_codes

looks like it could be a bunch of different things...my hunch would be something with permissions and filesystem types.

Since I'm on a Macbook, it was a suggestion. Next time I fire up my Windows VM I can test it.
