Local cover art erratic

Postby aquin43 » 26 Feb 2017, 17:49

I have a music library on a USB disc organized in a common fashion so that each album is contained in its own directory with a local file 'cover.jpg'. I would like these files to be the primary (ideally the only for local files) source of cover art so that they would be fetched according to the file path of the playing song - without, e.g., reference to the metadata.

Some of the files appear but most do not. This happens using both the Android App and a web browser.

All of the files are valid jpegs; in fact the whole library works as intended using Nightingale music player on the Mac.

Hi Arthur,

what version and device do you use?

RuneAudio searches for cover art in this order:
1. try to find embedded cover art
2. try to find local cover art (folder.jpg / cover.jpg / folder.png / cover.png)
3.0 try to find cover art on Last.FM (Album)
3.1 try to find cover art on Last.FM (Artist)
4. serve DEFAULT rune-cover image

To skip 1. you have to comment this out

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I am using a raspberry pi 3 and the latest runeaudio version.

I can see that the logic of the script is quite straight forward so it should be possible to mod it.
I can ssh into the pi as root but have no idea where these files reside.

Can you tell me that?

Regards,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

I am using a raspberry pi 3 and the latest runeaudio version.

On a RP3 it should work as described in my last post.
Please check your files for embedded cover art.
The file search (cover.jpg) is case sensitive, maybe this is your issue.

I did some tests on my RP3 and all works like it should.
The same song with all possible cover locations.

I am very interested in why it doesn't work for you.

Use WinSCP and Notepad++ on your host PC to edit files.
If you are on a MAC you can use Cyberduck instead.

Do not use built-in windows editors, because they may break file encodings and line endings.

Hello Frank,

I have found the source of the problem. When the library was created on the Mac it turns out that many of the cover.jpg files didn't have any permissions set for users other than the owner. When the disc is mounted on the R-pi, the owner is nobody so the files were not readable. A quick recursive chmod and all works as it should.

I did comment out the section you indicated using nano in a ssh login to the R-pi, since none of my files have embedded cover art.

Arthur
