Hi DomieMic65,

that doesn't matter.

But be warned updating the kernel is a risky task it may break things.
It is a good idea to make a backup first.

I already have one! (Actually two one through Rune and one through Diskimager)

Speaking of backup if I make one through Rune should I unzip it before loading it or should I load it as it is?

Thank you very much!

Just performed this 'update'. It will boot and I was able to get the latest kernel. For me is it 4.9.14-1 and it has many more drivers for later version DACs. I had to do one more 'modification' which was not in the recipe on page 1. I had to comment out the 2 lines in the config.txt
Code: Select all
# RuneAudio settings
#cmdline=cmdline_linux-arch-rpi_3.12.26-1-ARCH.txt
#kernel=linux-arch-rpi_3.12.26-1-ARCH.img

Currently, it will boot and start to run, after a while the music gets choppy then it will eventually hang and require a reboot. It has been rebooted for 24 minutes and now will not play any streams nor any music on the server. This is with the current kernel and also running the /dev branch of Rune updated via git. No mods burned the 0.3 version then updated it clean.

Is there a complete 0.4 image with a newer kernel, which will allow newer dacs, that I can burn?

This is for a Pi B+ this is what I am running:
Code: Select all
================  www.runeaudio.com  ================
RuneOs: 0.3-beta (build 20141029)
RuneUI: 1.3
Hw-env: RaspberryPi

root@deskrune:~ # uname -a
Linux deskrune 4.9.14-1-ARCH #1 SMP Tue Mar 14 00:45:48 UTC 2017 armv6l GNU/Linux

Edit: i tried this at home with my Pi2 (with a 5122 DAC) and it seems to work correctly after a kernel update. though the UI does seem to have a bit more lag than the older kernel (this is on an ethernet connection, not wifi). I have another Pi B+ but with a 5102 chip (hifiberry DAC) and it seems to work correctly with the same kernel updated. When I put the original V0.3 back on my B+ with the 5122 (iqaudio dac+ driver) it works fine (even 12 hrs later). With the updated kernel, it eventually gets choppy then locks up. Any clues as to what is going on? I have 2 SD cards and can swap to diagnose or troubleshoot if I knew what to look for.

So, I just tried this all again with a new SD card. Flashed 0.3, updated as indicated. Then it did the same thing. Locked up. Dmesg showed:
Code: Select all
[ 1268.343193] CIFS VFS: Error -104 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.344826] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.346186] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.346356] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.346500] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.346646] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.350626] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.350782] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1268.351456] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1288.824138] CIFS VFS: Error -104 sending data on socket to server
[ 1288.824909] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server
[ 1309.303758] CIFS VFS: Error -104 sending data on socket to server
[ 1309.304542] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server

So I guessed that it may be an old version of CIFS that was causing a hang. I updated that
Code: Select all
~ # pacman -Sy --force cifs-utils --noconfirm

and it came back to life (no rebooting needed). Remounted the drive and it seems to work again.

Would an updated image, with more current 'patched' packages, have helped? It is 2017 and the image is from 2014.

Hello there,
I have built an image which probably solves the JustBoom Amp problems using a Pi Zero. I don’t have a JustBoom Amp module, so I have not been able to test it. I also don’t have a Pi Zero W, so again no testing for this has been possible.

Thanks to gearhead for the super instructions. I am not a Linux expert so don’t ask me difficult questions, I just followed the instructions.

Some feedback would be interesting.
