Just what resolution do we get from this dac?

Trying to get my head round this one. The dac chip PCM 5242 supports upto 384Khz and 32 bit, but in the specification for the board it says "up to 24-bit/192kHz playback".

Just what DO you get out of this board?

max 192kHz, because it is limited by the kernel.

Thanks Frank, so if I wanted to do higher resolutions then I would need an external usb dac on a pi3?

BTW: Can you tell us something about your system (AMP, loudspeaker ...)
I think 192kHz is more than enough, you will not hear the difference.

Hi Frank. My system is a Pi 3 with the config file tweaks etc outputted to a Muse PCM 2704 dac feeding AKG K92 headphones. Definitely "affordable". I ordered the dac in the link I supplied, it comes Wednesday and I'll post my findings if anyone is interested.
