How to get USB output

Trying to get USB output from Rune Audio software direct from RPi2 USB output.

I have been using hifi berry digi+ but I have a very nice USB-SPDIF interface that works well from the Mac and I'd like to give the Pi a go. Just need to know how to set USB as the output.

I also had a Pi with Digi+ but I use the USB output as there was no apparent SQ benefit from the Digi+. It is possible but sometimes I find that the DAC doesn't recognise it when I switch over. I restart my DAC (while the Pi is powered) and that seems to resolve it. Hopefully someone will give you a more specific response.

In the end I removed the Digi+ as I wasn't using it.

you need to use alsamixer to set the USB and increase its volume to 100% and setit, then it will work in Runes UI.
