Hifiberry DAC+Pro crackling noise during play

Postby bnilsson » 29 Dec 2016, 14:48

I have a HiFiBerry DAC+Pro, and RuneAudio release version: 0.4 (build: beta-20160313).

While playing (especially audible during slow piano music) I hear a crackling noise in the beginning of each note.
It is the same regardless of bitrate (44.1 - 192kHz) or bit depth (16 or 24 bits).
Needless to say, it is very annoying.

I have tried to disable most features in the Settings, but there is no improvement.
I have also disabled the internal audio of the RP.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I suspect a non-sufficient or "noisy" power supply.
If you got a USB power bank you can give this a try. If the crackling noise is gone, you should look for a high quality wall adapter (5V/2.5A or better).

I got into this problem again when testing the HifiBerry DAC Pro (I usually use an external USB DAC) when I installed and tested the latest 20180903_runeaudio_rpiB2.img.
Testing with a battery PowerBank did not help.
Setting the I2S driver to HifiBerry DAC Pro constantly gave me PiFi DAC Plus instead, but this effect was mentioned in the info, so I did not worry.

However, the noise and click problem disappeared completely when applying a "gitpull" (as of today 20190203).
Also, I could now set the correct I2S (HifiBerryDAC Plus Pro) driver and it did not change on Save/Apply.

Good work!
