Hardware volume control Runeaudio 0.3 alpha with Odac

Postby amadeus74 » 22 Oct 2014, 09:18

Hi to all.

I'm new to this board: I've downloaded Runeaudio 0.3 alpha yesterday and I need some help, please.
I've the OS installed on a Raspberry Pi B+, connected to ODAC with USB.
In the RuneUI settings I've selected the hardware volume control but the volume is always locked at 100%.
If I switch to software volume control, I can set the volume at the level that I want.
The ODAC is capable of receiving the hardware volume control because with Volumio and with Lubuntu with MPD work fine.
If I control Runeaudio with MPdroid, the hardware volume don't function, so is not a problem of the UI.

Any help for me?

Thanks

Hi amadeus74,
we are going to improve the hardware detection in the 0.3-beta, reintroducing as fallback an old function Orion wrote (the same one Volumio uses) when no matches are found in our hardware database.
Anyway we would like to survey the ODAC too: can you post here your debug info like described in this post?

Thank for the reply.
I post my debug as soon as possible this night.
At this moment, I can make some configuration modification for use hardware volume with Odac?

My advice is to wait for the upcoming 0.3-beta.

So, in the meantime, i stay with software volume, right?

The upcoming 0.3 beta, when?

A part the UI that is best in Runeaudio, for what concern the audio quality ( bit perfect ecc. ), is there any difference from your project and Volumio?

Thanks for all.

Yes, use the software volume in the meanwhile.
If you want to test the difference between software and hardware volume you could do the following:
1) set software volume to 100
2) change the mixer type to "disabled"
3) go to CLI and type "alsamixer", press F6 and select your soundcard (ODAC)
4) control the hardware volume from there

The 0.3-beta is going to be released in days.

Concerning the audio quality, all the system optimizations and the kernel profiles were accurately made by Orion during our collaboration with the RaspyFi project, and Volumio uses that work. We continue to improve it, adapting the settings hand in hand with the system updates and the new kernel versions. So, if you care about sound quality, then RuneAudio could be your right choice :)

OK, so I stay with your project.
In the next hours I can upload the log.

And I have also tried to display local art with the guide presented in this forum

cover-display-t122-10.html

but I need some more help with every step to do.

Thanks.
