force start x on boot

Postby charsi » 29 Jul 2017, 08:29

Hi

Is there any way to force a 'startx' command on boot even when no displays are connected?

I've got some hotkeys configured (via xbindkeys) to control a relay that powers my hifi system. This is working perfectly. I have a flirc IR receiver connected which sends the keystrokes when i press certain buttons on the tv remote.

But as xbindkeys needs x running I have to manually login via ssh and do 'startx' everytime the rpi boots. Any way to automate this?

Hi charsi,

on the newer images you only have to enable the local browser option from the settings page.

Or you can modify rune_SY_wrk on the older images.

Ah I didn't see this option at all earlier. It was actually turned on by default. But since I didn't have a screen connected rune was not loading x.

I got another solution working instead. Namely triggerhappy daemon. Had to install it from source but it does do exactly what I want and without needing to start x.
