Issues with nightly build to solve Dirble problems

Postby den_hr » 24 Sep 2015, 09:12

OK, I have a serious issue with the patch (nightly build) to get Dirble working again...

Setup:
RasPi B+
Audioponics Sabre ES9023 (ebay copy, works as Hifiberry...)
Standard RuneAudio image (RuneAudio_rpi_0.3-beta_20141029_2GB.img)
Once set up for Audiphonics DAC, everything works OK - except Dirble....
So, I followed Frank's advice to get it to work, i.e. switch to nightly build:
Code: Select all
rm -rf /var/www/{*,.*}
git clone -b dev https://github.com/RuneAudio/RuneUI.git/ /var/www
curl -s http://localhost/clear

- and reboot
After reboot, everything works (including Dirble, although it shows "null")
However, once I try to reboot or shutdown again from the UI, it starts the spinning circle and does not shut down or reboot.... just waits.
If I ssh into Rune, and issue "shutdown -r now" or "shutdown -h now", it shuts down/reboots, but...
- I don't have either the network or the UI, anything... If I connect the RasPi to a monitor, I see a "normal" start of the boot process, but after a few seconds it throws me into a login prompt! (in console).
So, no network, no UI, just a login prompt in the console...

I've tried this process several times, always with the same result: at first reboot after switch to nightly build, everything seems to be OK, but on subsequent reboots the system does not start, but opens a console login prompt...

Any pointers?

Or a clear and bulletproof instructions to get Dirble to work again on RasPi B+?

TIA,
Denis

Hi Denis,

If I connect the RasPi to a monitor, I see a "normal" start of the boot process, but after a few seconds it throws me into a login prompt! (in console).

This is the normal behavior on all devices. There is no UI on a local monitor.
user = root
password = rune

Any pointers?

I'll try to find a solution for this, as soon as i have access to a RP B+.

I know that :)

But, this is not the "usual" boot screen. Usually and normally, the boot messages go on for about 20-30 seconds, but now the screen (console) is wiped clean after about 10 seconds, and then the login prompt appears.

No network, nothing, I can only see the login, and my keyboard doesn't work - so I can't even login locally :(
Strange....
In short, I get a botched up system, which I can only reinstall from scratch - using the default image....
If I don't apply the nightly build as per the procedure described above, all is well - but I don't have Dirble radio :(
This all applies to RasPi B+
I managed to get Dirble working as per above procedure (nightly build) last week on a RasPi B ("ordinary", older B version, with 2 USB ports) - although even there it seems that the system was a bit more unstable after that.... More testing required :(

And another thing: the switch to nightly build with the same SD card image on RasPi B works OK. The system boots and works OK.
And I can shutdown, reboot, etc... Everything normal. Could it be that I should somehow update firmware or something for Raspi B+ ?

Hi den_hr,

i made a test with a RasPi B+ and all works fine after the switch to dev branch.

- make a fresh sd card with image from here.
- get access to console
- switch to dev branch
Code: Select all
rm -rf /var/www/{*,.*}
git clone -b dev https://github.com/RuneAudio/RuneUI.git/ /var/www
curl -s http://localhost/clear

- reboot via UI

After this RasPi B+ runs on the dev branch as expected.

I did not make any changes (settings) before switching branches.

Well, I'll be .....

It works!

I don't know what went wrong before. Maybe because I did some changes to settings,... really don't know. I used exactly the same image, but did not get the expected results... Now I re-downloaded the image, and did exactly as you stated above, and it works...

But.... (there's always a but with me...)

Dirble list of radios is now a lot shorter. Under "Jazz" I have only "Mainstream Jazz", and half of the stations listed there do not work...

I seem to remember that Dirble had many more stations.... In fact, I'm sure that there were more jazz stations...

Do you have any idea what is happening with the list of radio stations on Dirble?

Hi all,

we managed to improve DIRBLE.

This is only for the dev branch.

For all of you who like to test, please switch / update your installation to the nightly builds.

If you already did this, you only have to update via git pull from the dev page.

http://192.168.0.23/dev or http://runeaudio/dev

Thanks!

That's much better now - I have (hundreds?) more radio stations listed under Dirble now :)

Anyway, there are now MANY more to chose from...

Thanks a million, Frank!

Hallo Frank,

very cool improvement! Search function does not always find all matching stations. But over all - great work!
Many thanks.

regards
