[SOLVED] BBB Rev B, 0.2Beta not booting?

Postby Stino » 26 May 2014, 15:41

Hi, I have a BBB Rev B and am using a 8Gb SD card (FAT32). When I power up the board all 4 leds stay on and nothing happens. I've tried holding the power button when plugging in (up to 20sec), I red this solved similair problem, still this doesn't resolve the problem.

I can boot of the Volumio 1.3Beta image of off a 2Gb cards. Unfortunatly the Runeaudio image doens't fit on the 2Gb card.

Any clues? many thanks.

Hi Stino, the behaviour that you described is not normal, it could be caused by a read error of the SD card. Could you try again after rewriting the SD or, if that still doesn't work, try with a different SD card?

I don't have another (other then 2GB's, which are to small) card. This 8Gb SD seems fine in any other device.., I'll reformat and try again.

Thanks,

Hi, I've did a lowlevel restored and lowlevel re-format of the card with Diskpart & SDFormatter v4.0. The card seems fine. I reloaded the 0.2Beta image with Win32 Disk Imager 0.9.5. Still the same problem.

Could it be the size of the card or make?

What card size/make comes recommended?

Any SD card should work fine. Did you follow these instructions?
My suggestion is to use USB Image Tool anyway, I find it more practical under Windows.

Hi, I appreciate your help. Yes, I followed the steps in that post mentioning the 20sec hold-down, this did not resolve it.

I'll try the USB image tool. If not I'll try another card.

Thanks,

Tried the USB image tool. The BBB still doesn't boot from the Runeaudio 0.2beta image, all four LED's light up and stay that way, no sign of life at the console either.., tested 20sec bootbutton hold-down again, no change.

Next what I did was put Volumio 1.3Beta on the 8GB suspect SD card, which did work... So I'm sorry to say but , that kind of singles out the Runeaudio 0.2Beta image..

What eMMC image are you running? I've flashed to the latest Ångström image, could that make a difference? I don't expect it should but I'll roll-back to the Debian build just in case.

Thanks,

i've got it working!

I flashed the BBB to Debian 2014-05-14, and now the Runeaudio 0.2Beta image is booting from my 8Gb card. Not sure what changed..I understand that even when booting from SD the flash MLO is still used, maybe something was wrong there..

Thanks,

Glad you solved it :) In the next 0.3-beta that kind of issue should disappear.
